Between Council’s cancellation of the Crack Kit Program and Blizzard’s condemnation of Ottawa as a crack-infested cesspool, quite a few local bloggers* have been blogging about crack lately.
It could be very interesting if the local blogging community were to show up in force for this community forum on Thursday night….

I used to be a drug addict on the streets of Ottawa.
That whole period of my life is a bit hazy, but it started in my teens and lasted a few years.
Amphetamines were relatively cheap and plentiful at the time, and they were my drug of choice.
I wasn’t in good shape. I […]

What the hell is the matter with Ottawa City Council, eliminating the crack kit program? I have nothing to say about it beyond what I said in December. Except this: Council’s short-sighted, uninformed, pointlessly moralistic non-solution betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of the problem.

I was just looking through the politically atrocious but beautifully illustrated children’s book I bought at the Merrickville Antique Show last weekend. Such a pretty book.
But you know what they say: you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Here’s a nice bedtime story to read to your children:
STOLEN TARTS
Sambo, Bambo and Topsy were three […]

I read about the Conservative Party’s new blog on Rick Mercer’s site, and thought he was joking. He wasn’t.
The Conservative Party should know better than to attempt to be funny – they’re just not made that way – and their blog illustrates perfectly what happens when a political party combines a lack of humour […]

Stuart called last night from Thailand to tell me that he hasn’t been able to update his blog for over a week because his computer can’t connect to wordpress anymore. And he was really desperate to fix it because he is now a blogging junkie.
I logged into his wordpress account, no problem. So we […]

Yesterday I was standing in the lineup at the bank and I caught a bit of a newsclip on TV about a saggy pants law. Afterwards I googled it, and learned that there are – and have been for the past couple of years – American towns introducing legislation against the wearing of saggy pants. […]

I’m a sign-reader. I can’t pass a post that has signage without at least glancing at it. I’m particuarly drawn to signs of the non-professional genre. Handwritten signs are my favourite, then photocopied handwritten signs, then home computer signs. Big multi-coloured professionally-designed signs don’t really interest me.
Lately there have been an awful lot of […]

Tuesday, on the way to work, at the corner of Bank and Cooper, I spotted pigeons having sex. Naturally I stopped and photographed them.
I have since learned a few things about pigeons, and I know you’d want me to share my new-found knowledge with you.
Pigeons are pretty much monogamous. They occasionally stray, but probably […]

I attempted to do my civic duty as a responsible member of the blogging community today by voting in the Seventh Annual Weblog Awards (aka The 2007 Bloggies).
The contest consists of 30 categories of blogs, with five finalists in each category. That’s 150 blogs. I visited a LOT of them.
As I visited each blog […]
