Life is everywhere

Life is EverywhereWhat: mixed media art using wood, mirror, paper and screws

Where: on the wall of the old now-defunct Ritz Hotel at Bank and Somerset, right beside the Dollar-It formerly known as Big Bud’s

When: March 22, 2007

Who: This looks suspiciously like the work of a serial artist.

We should have a blogging community contest to see who can find the next piece in the series.

  • We’ve got a real mystery going here!

This could be a serial artist, or it could be the work of a copycat!

The mirror, the woodscrews and the wood are all highly similar.

But “Impersonate Those in Power” had a hand-written caption, and you can’t see it in my photo, but it also had a little shirt and tie drawn on the mirror so that anyone looking at would appear to be wearing a tie.

  • A copycat artist, I never even thought of that. You should be a lawyer or something.

I don’t think the variations in caption styles should sway us too much though. The artist could just be experimenting.

I wonder if the shirt and tie in Impersonate has something to do with gender power imbalances.

I think the artist is a man, as Life is Everywhere is too high up for me to actually look in the mirror. How high up is Impersonate?

  • Hmm, Impersonate might also be too high for you.

Perhaps we should carry measuring tapes with us so we can properly document the heights these works are displayed at.

Your “experimenting” theory is compelling. However, I think it is notable that the main difference between the two works is the one thing that would be most difficult for a copycat to duplicate.

  • You make an excellent point David, but I remain unconvinced on the copycat theory.

There has been a third spotting: Pearl found one on Rideau Street! http://www.pagehalffull.com/humanyms/?p=963

  • […] Do you remember Life is Everywhere, which was right next to Big Bud’s on Bank Street, and which was one piece in a series of street art pieces being discovered by local bloggers? […]
