Last Wednesday afternoon GC and I stopped by the Baseline Cowboys’ base camp at 1605 Baseline Road, and gave them an antique Mr. Peanut jar filled with peanuts. They gave us a warm welcome and a cold beer . They even let me have a coveted seat on the now-famous couch.
Their little tradition of hauling the couch onto the front lawn every Wednesday afternoon, making a sign, and waving at traffic has taken on a life of its own, with social media, traditional media, a lot more honking, waving and flashing, and a steadily growing crowd of intrigued strangers stopping by for a beer.
Anyway, the Baseline Cowboys are very friendly and likable young men and they’re having a lot of fun with this. Last Wednesday they even spent all morning cleaning their house in case any reporters wanted to see the inside.
It’s good to see people doing a little something to make life a little more fun for everybody. Speaking of which, we asked how their neighbours liked it, and they said their neighbours are awesome. Besides, they only keep the party going from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm every Wednesday, out of respect for their awesome neighbours.
Their Facebook page now has 484 “likes”, and they’re promising something awesome when they hit the magic 500. We’re all hoping that’ll be today. So don’t be shy – go like them on Facebook, drive by their house, honk, flash, and stop in for a beer!
Any typos in this post are due entirely to Oboe the lovebird performing an intricate mating dance on my keyboard while I typed around him.
I hope the peanuts inside that jar weren’t *vintage* too!
;^)
That is an awesomely cute little green bird.
How are his parents doing, BTW?
deBeauxOs – nope, the peanuts are fresh. But good question!
Julia, he is pretty cute, isn’t he? We’ve nicknamed him Pesky McFeathers because he’s so annoying. But he’s very good-natured and friendly and smart. Lester and Billie are doing well. They both let me stroke their beaks the last time I was at GC’s house, which is a huge step forward. They love us, but they’re not tame and they’ve always resisted physical contact with us.
I dropped in on these cowboys yesterday to do a little interview myself and they were telling us all about you so I had to track you down. Great blog. I am impressed that your bird blogs along with you.
[…] folks to give to their charity and “spread the awesome”, or froem the many blog posts (http://www.knitnut.net/2011/07/awesome-wednesday/)  about them … or from their recent interview on Majic 100! . They are changing the face […]
