We think our first baby lovebird has hatched! We haven’t had a good look yet, since Billie is in the nesting box with it, but we can only see three eggs now, and GC saw something else moving. We assume it’s a baby lovebird.
I have to go out this morning for a workshop, so I might not get to see it for awhile. But you can watch here if you want. GC’s going to try to improve the picture quality when he gets back from walking the dog.
I’m so excited! I feel like knitting something tiny!
Update: We’ve seen it, it’s a baby lovebird and it’s bright pink – it’s a GIRL!
WooHoo! Congratulations! What fun!
I see her!!! Oh my…so small.
Thanks penlan! She’s bigger than I expected – bearing in mind that those three remaining eggs are considerably smaller than a chicken egg. And she seems pretty strong too.
I just worry that Lester’s going to step on her. He’s a very involved daddy, and a bit of a klutz.
I don’t think you can tell the sex by the colour!
I’m just kidding Julia. I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. As a matter of fact, you can’t tell the sex of peach-faced lovebirds just by looking, even when they’re adults.
Congrats! Thanks for getting the camera back up. Don’t stress about the quality of the pic, I’m sure the dim lighting in the box makes that difficult.
What fun!
Congratulations. That is pretty darn sweet.
