Yesterday was one of those days where we almost did a whole bunch of things, but actually did very little.
In the morning we decided to drive out to Mantotick to the Swan on the Rideau where Sue W now works. We thought we’d have brunch at her new digs. We were about halfway there when GC got a text message from his son saying he’d arrived in town and would be at his place shortly. So we turned around and went to his place instead.
Later we went out shopping for a laptop for GC, so he can write his Nanowrimo novel. And then I bought ten pounds of Macintosh apples at Farm Boy. Ten pounds. (So far I have eaten one Macintosh apple.) We didn’t buy a spray can of Organic Batter Blaster, although we were intrigued by it. This is basically an aerosol can (I think) of pancake/waffle batter. You spray them out like whipped cream. There are 23 4-inch pancakes in a can, for $4.99. Did I mention they’re organic? So weird. We also saw an elderly man at Farm Boy who was coughing the contents of his lungs into a filthy handkerchief while mauling and sampling the grapes. This was every bit as appealing as it sounds, so I probably won’t eat grapes for at least a year.I wanted to attend the Memoir-writers session at the Writers Festival at 6:30, but I was seized with an intense case of the sleepies around the time we needed to leave. I didn’t want to spend money for an uncomfortable nap, so we didn’t go.
Instead, we figured we’d attend the world record-setting event at Ottawa U in which the most zombies ever would dance to Thriller. It was scheduled from 8:30 to 8:36. But by the time the clock rolled around to 8:00, GC was happily setting up his laptop and I was happily lying on the couch with a good book, and we talked each other out of the zombies. Because, we pointed out, we’d be getting our fill of zombies today at the Zombie Walk.
There’s no way we’re going to miss the Zombie Walk. Last year we stumbled across it by accident, but this year we firmly committed to it in advance because we loved it so much.
Here’s the route, starting at 3:00 at Beechwood Cemetery and heading to Parliament Hill. We’re going to catch it in the Market.

Don’t forget your camera!
Don’t you forget your camera and get GC to take a picture of you with your new hair…I think I have been patient enough.
Oh yeah, that was another thing we almost did yesterday – we almost took a picture of my new hair!
I’ll keep an eye out for you! Not sure we’ll be there at the same time but we are going to get Rick Hillier to sign a copy of his book at Chapters (Rideau) today. But he starts at 2 so we may not coincide.
have fun with the zombies – keep a close eye on your brains!
Ugh! I wish I hadn’t read your story about the old man and the grapes… That’s disgusting. My son eats tons of grapes every day. Now I will have to try to keep that story out of my head when I’m washing them for him, otherwise I won’t be able be to give them to him!
Have a nice outing. At least, we’ve finally got a sunny day today.
P.S. What are going to do with all those apples? Do you have baking plans? We are just going to go out to get some apples from the Loeb, I mean Metro, in the Glebe, because although we have lots of grapes (ugh again! – gotta get that image out of my head), we’re almost out of apples. Last week I bought a big bag of Courtland apples there and the cashier was asking me if I was going to make apple crumble. But in fact my kid has eaten most of them already before I had the chance to bake anything with them.
Our wedding reception was at the Swan on the Rideau. It will be 30 years in June . . . child bride you know.
Also, the Butter Blaster sample lady at my new local grocery store was really miffed, angry almost, when I said no thank you. I mean they are ORGANIC and save so much WORK.
Zoom I joined nanowrimo and the bloody batter blasters will be featured in my book!
GC bought a laptop just for the Nowrinomo thing?
Yes XUP, I take my novel writing VERY seriously.
I totally forgot the zombie was happening. Would have loved to have seen that.
