I’ve spent 15 of the past 17 hours in bed with Duncan and a wicked headache. The other two hours involved stuffing Duncan into his leopard-skin carrying case and dragging him over to the vet’s for his annual checkup, where it was revealed that he has gained two-tenths of a kilo and now weighs 9.5 kilos, or 20.9 pounds. He needs to lose 15% of his body weight, starting tomorrow, and he should have dental surgery, but other than that he’s perfect.
I had this headache all day yesterday, but it was tolerable and I worked. Last night I went out for dinner with Max, which I enjoyed even with a headache because he’s such an interesting and personable young man. I learn all kinds of things from him. But the thing I learned last night that stuck with me the most was that his mom found out about his addiction by reading about it on my blog. Can you even imagine that?
After I got home last night my headache suddenly shifted. Instead of being evenly distributed throughout my whole head, it turned into an intense beam of pain in the left side of my head. Fortunately I can sleep through it, so I’ve been sleeping a lot. I’m going back to bed now.
sounds like a migraine. did you notice any visual disturbances before it began?
Ouch. I hope you’re better tomorrow. And may I add, what a trooper for blogging through the pain.
I hope you feel better soon. Poor you. I am so sorry that I passed on THAT particular gene.
And poor Duncan! Dental surgery is supposed to be really expensive for animals. Once you’ve done what needs to be done try using one of the cat type Dentistix or Check-ups. They are wonderful treats and they keep their gums and teeth healthy and clean. (I am assuming they have something for cats.)
if what you have is infact a migraine you are my hero!
it always amazes me the folks that work and carry on while having a migraine. i get them and am basically dead (or i wish i was at the time).
i cannot work, stand or speak among other things. i vomit and loose sight sometimes.
it’s hell.
hope you are feeling better really soon zoom!
I’m whispering..feel better!
Hope that was the pain peaking, and that it’s now on the way out *hugs* Definitely migraine symptoms! I recommend massage, and or acupuncture if you prefer to go the natural route, though if you get the migraines regularly enough, most people I know have found that Imitrex (or any of the triptans) works wonders. Sadly, my daily headache is not a migraine so it’s useless on me, but every time I tell people I have a headache they launch into the wonders of Imitrex speech! 😉
Why is that cats always need teeth cleaning? I think it’s made worse by the fact that most cat kibbles are so tiny they don’t need to crunch into them much! Years ago we had them on Dental Diet for a while, and Smu, the cat most in need of dental work, would just kinda gum the kibble until they were sopping and soft enough to eat. Boy that was infuriating!
Sorry about the pain! Resting is the way to go – I know!
I am a fan of the triptans. I go to sleep with a headache, wake up half and hour later, feeling like I slept for hours and the pain is gone.
Hey Zoom–
You didn’t tell me your headache was that bad! I would have quit gabbing so much and we could have gone somewhere much quieter. Oh well…
And if you feel like it, because I forgot to specifically mention it before (cause I know you like it to be specifically mentioned) anything we discussed is bloggable if you so desire :).
As far as that application, I brought it up at my very next meeting and my boss shot me down because she was in a bad mood — the woman who is always chipper and cheer, encouraging me to extend my wings and wanting me to go on my first business trip out of town — shot me down, in a bitchy and uncalled-for way in front of my whole committee, claiming that I brought it on ‘too quickly’ and that I should have talked it over to her beforehand. I explained that I had only got the invite and application the night before and she shifted her reason to ambiguous “I don’t really have the authority to sign this” so I said I’d go to Alex Munter if I had to and she admitted that it wasn’t a ‘good time’ for me to go. Wow, eh? I just wanted a legit reason!
Anyway, let’s chat again soon. And if we go to dinner at the end of the month, well, let’s say I can lessen my materialistic guilt a little ;).
I phrased that too awkwardly for my own liking —
Let’s go to dinner at the end of the month (if you’d like) and this time, I can lessen my materialistically-influenced guilt…
not much better, huh? hmm… back to the drawing board 😛
Max, sorry you can’t make it to the thing in May, but at least you tried. I’ll look forward to our next dinner.
