The other day I saw two sure signs of impending Christmas.
1. My Christmas Cactus at the office bloomed.
2. Some guy walked up O’Connor Street in his Christmas pants.
One of my friends at work has not only finished all her Christmas shopping, but has done all her wrapping too. I haven’t even started wrapping my head around the concept yet.
How about you? How’s Christmas coming along?
Update: Oops, I almost forgot to mention XUP! (Just 10 more days in the Blogging About XUP series. I think she and I will both be happy to turn this particular page on the calendar.)

This is totally lame. Mentioning me by saying you almost forgot to mention me is just sad. Really sad. I’m the most boring person in the universe. I don’t know what ever possessed you to make such a rash vow of blog-mentioning me every day for the rest of the month. Really. Haven’t you and the GC been anywhere lately? Or cooked something fun? Or had some zany, Lucy-like adventures? You’ve never told the romantic tale of how you met or when you both first “knew”. Or how his knitting is coming along… Anyway, I’ve done absolutely nothing about Christmas except book my vacation time and my ticket to the hometown.
I picked up Nature Girl’ and Wild Thing’s presents from the big man awhile ago. I was going to give Darkmirror our camera and replace ours but Sprout pitched our camera and it is broken broken broken – now I can’t afford to replace it at all. (hint on the little people’s gifts – theirs can be thrown and are guaranteed not to break! though I doubt they produce great pictures)
But tomorrow I get to visit Woozles – the oldest children’s bookstore in Canada. I will be looking for a good family readaloud for everyone.
Otherwise lean lean lean holiday – I have a scrap of pine I’m making into a pirate ship for Wild Thing, and Nature Girl would like a doll that looks like her and she wants it to have a ragdoll body so it’ll be easy. I have everything I need to make it already.
Dark mirror begged his present early too…so I still need something – but he got geek books already…and painting supplies.
For adults…I hope you all like sauerkraut!
My daughter suggested we not exchange gifts this year. Works for me! I cover her membership at the yoga studio for the year and I will get my son some things he needs but is too cheap to buy himself and there will be handknits all around. Otherwise, it will be Thanksgiving II except the food will have a Mexican theme.
I am hoping that somehow we’ll cancel Christmas this year…
I’ve heard that, but haven’t heard, that HBC has started its Christmas music.Gak. No more shopping til January.
I agree XUP is extremely boring. According to her she has never been arrested, spraining herself, having sex in a car, west of Ontario.
What’s with that
Was in Chapters Wednesday and it was full-blown Christmas. I fled. Waay, waay too early… I’m starting to think about gifts, and this year, the giving will be utilitarian…food cards, gas cards, bus tickets.
…and I forgot the most important…a gift to charity. Charities really, really need help this year, so folks, even a weeeee bit…..pleeeeez!
I’m all done. I know, I know, I am crazy. But I hate facing the mall in December, so I always shop early…and this year we had to be done our shopping for our extended families a little early as this past weekend would be the last time we would see them before the holidays. So now I can focus on the wrapping and the baking and the cards and the decorating. Fun!
I’m dreaming of a simple Christmas. Well, not dreaming really, considering is more like it. My kids are grown and they will appreciate something handknit. And my nephews and niece will learn that Auntie is poor and maybe they’ll get mittens (but I’m not sure they GET mittens). I skipped Christmas last year and that was a little too bleak so instead of that I’ll try for minimalism. And not one moment before December 1.
Halloween is barely over, and as it’s my favourite celebration, I have a hard time to turn towards Christmas. That said, I’ve done some shopping because I have to mail my gifts to the Tobique by mid December.
What I am looking forward to is my Mum’s gift of handknit socks. She is a superlative knitter of wild and crazy socks. Or any thing knit.
Zoom! – Just to let you know, I discovered your blog when I was trying to learn to knit. I’m still hopeless at knitting, but that’s OK. What I really enjoy is the diversity of your posts.
Oh yeah? Several years ago, I finished my Christmas shopping forever.
Woozles report: What a fabulous indy bookstore! I got the kids a couple of books – Wind in the Willows with great illustrations as a family read. Matilda for Nature Girl, a book on dinosaur pirates (how perfect is that) for Wild Thing, and a post apocalyptic speculative fiction award winner for Darkmirror. The clerks have read EVERYTHING in the store! I mean the sweetie helping me was APOLOGETIC that she’d only listened to the 12 hour recording of one of the books I was asking about.
I love any bookstore/toystore that is so low key and calm that my kids LEAVE happily without any items (that they know about) or meltdowns.
I had a hard time leaving though – they had EVERY dover colouring book AND great art supplies AND a wild thing poster and big comfy reading chairs and the store smelled of gingerbread and old books….and people working there had reading glasses with chains. I want a job there!
I miss Woozles. They also sponsor the annual Battle of the Books in NS. My daughter was on her school’s team one year and they came in second!! Whoo-hoo!
Our poor plants are forever getting further and further out of sync with the seasons. For proof? Our EASTER cactus just started blooming, but the thanksgiving/christmas cactuses aren’t even showing buds. One of them was blooming in july though…
