We did Summer.
We did Autumn.
And now it’s time for Winter.
What do you love about Winter?
Me? I love those rare mornings that aren’t cold, aren’t windy, and look like they’ve been dipped in fresh clean snow.
And I love wood-burning fireplaces, mandarin oranges, and handknit socks.
I’m crazy about that photo of the weeds in winter by Robin. It’s got that minimalist Japanese thing going on.
If you can think of anything else to love about Winter, please add them to this list in the comments.
(Dont’ worry – we’ll do Things We Hate About Winter in February.)
big fluffy flakes and making snowmen and snowballs
eating an icicle
cross country skiing
mexican hot chocolate (has hot peppers in it – yummmmmm!)
being able to see all the cardinals and jays – not just hear them – oh and here in the Annapolis Valley I get to add to this – bald eagles just hanging out in bare trees!
Cape Split on a cloudy day – the entire lanscape is a study in black and white and greys and where the sun pierces the clouds its actually a bright golden sunbeam reaching down into the sea.
Being able to see by the reflection of light off fresh snow.
I just got in from a lovely book club evening. It’s -13 C and raining! I may need a day or two to think of the “I loves”.
full moon bright midnight
if friends take their boots off I know they are gonna stay a while
snowstorms that slow traffic and time itself
I like playing with the puppies in the snow. They makes me laugh out loud. They dive in searching for moles and other small animals that live underneath, and Kenya emerges, her black fur looking as if she has have been dusted with icing sugar. Remi just keeps building up, layer by layer, an icy overcoat that clings to his apricot curls. They come in at half hour intervals to warm up and when they have thawed and become too silly for the house, I send them out to race up and down the hill and chase each other for another half hour.
Snow up here in these hills makes for wonderfully clean fun … for people and puppies.
My dog, Chloe, loves to make snow angels. She lies on her back and spreads her legs just like a child does.
I love how clean the walking paths look. I love looking at the Christmas lights.
What a beautiful sheep!
How I talk about going out skiing and snowshoeing then laugh and laugh…
You guys are still waxing poetic about winter, eh? (I predict that the magic will last till Boxing Day.) But you did come up with some lovely images. Thank you.
Grace – really? I didn’t know it was even possible for rain to fall at -13! I thought there was some universal law that forbid water to be liquid at that temperature.
Malva – Deb sent me a whole pile of sheep a couple of days ago. I’ll post a link to the photographer tonight.
Dirtwitch – I’m checking out your brand new blog.
Dirtwitch, I edited your comments to fix the link to your blog: you skipped a period (uh oh).
Anyway, it’s wildcuturecafe.blogspot.com.
I don’t love anything about winter.
I skipped a period????
RUNS SHREIKING IN HORROR FROM THE BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol…kerry
I love that the riff-raff stays indoors (for the most part) so it’s nice and quiet on my street 24-7.
I love how it’s dark early so there’s no guilt about not going outside to enjoy the sunshine after dinner.
I love how dog poop freezes and is easier to clean up in my backyard.
I love not having to weed the garden.
I love the sound of a winter storm.
