Okay this is one of those rare things that’s too personal to blog about but too special not to blog about. So I’m going to skip all the personal details and just tell you the bottom line: Me and my Dad are going to run the 10k together on National Capital Race Weekend at the end of May! And I’m really really really happy about it.
That’s great, Sue.
We will come down and cheer you two on. What weekend is it?
I was pretty intoxicated when I wrote that, and I forgot to mention that you’re running it too Deb. And Merle too. It’s the last weekend in May, so we’ve got seven months to train.
That sounds really fun. Go Zoom! Go!
we have one more recruit for the big race – Alex is in
I probably couldn’t walk ten miles…I start back at the gym tomorrow…was supposed to be today but a family crisis intervened…but even so, I was never a runner.
seven months of training? hope that’s not going to interfere with the blogging
Good for you! Are you going to set up a training schedule and everything?
Well, I’ve been running three times a week since Sept. 1, and am now up to 3km each time. I followed the Running Room’s Learn to Run program (but from the book, not a course).
Deb, I’m going to post the first 8 weeks training, so you’ll be able to see how do-able it is. It’s all 20-minute sessions – a mix of running and walking – and you gradually decrease the number of walk breaks till you’re running the whole 20 minutes (after 8 weeks). The trick is to run very very slowly!
And there’s no reason we couldn’t take walk breaks during the 10k race too. It’s not like we’re going to try to WIN it or anything.
That’s great that Alex’s coming. What about Mike?
Hey James, are you in?
