What the hell is the matter with Ottawa City Council, eliminating the crack kit program? I have nothing to say about it beyond what I said in December. Except this: Council’s short-sighted, uninformed, pointlessly moralistic non-solution betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of the problem.

I think it’s appalling. It’s an issue of public health, not one of crime. What do you expect from a city that elected a right wing mayor?
So Depressing… I guess it’s right in line with our useless righty mayor/council, but still. Disappointing and so regressive.
Regressive and appalling is right. They should be ashamed of themselves for reducing the crack problems in this city to a business and tourism issue. Same thing goes for homelessness. It’s not going to go away no matter how deeply Council buries its head in the sand, or how much they try to hide it from view.
They need to wrap their heads around the fact that addiction is a much bigger problem for addicts than it is for business and tourism. And homelessness is a much bigger problem for homeless people than it is for business and tourism.
Council will never find the right solution when it’s framing the problem all wrong.
